Smoker’s lines are stubborn wrinkles situated above the lips and are one of the most common complaints many patients have.

They can be caused by a variety of factors that are not just linked to smoking as the name suggests. Other contributors include age and genetics, or even lack of moisture and hydration above the lips.

If smoker’s lines have been caused by smoking then the best piece of advice is to try and stop smoking, so your collagen levels can return to normal. If lines are present because of cosmetics and the use of cleansers which dry the skin, then avoid these and use a mild, moisturising cleanser instead. Eating citrus fruits or vegetables high in vitamin C can help keep the skin hydrated too.

Luckily, smoker’s lines are generally fine lines that are not too deep, so the concentration of hyaluronic acid is not too high or expensive either.

Fighting the signs of aging is an ongoing challenge for many, but fillers have made it easier, so it doesn’t have to feel like a battle against the uncontrollable. You don’t have to feel or look old.
